Maureen Dinkins is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher in the Orlando, Florida area. She started teaching yoga in 2004 after first discovering it five years earlier. In 2002 she was introduced to Ashtanga yoga, but didn’t find it her path until 2007 when she made her first trip to Mysore, India to study it with the Jois family. Since then she has made many trips back to study this traditional style of yoga that was originally brought to the West by K. Pattabhi Jois in the 1970s. Now when she returns to India, she studies with the late Guruji’s grandson, Sharath Jois, who remains as her teacher and has granted her Authorization to teach Ashtanga yoga as it has been taught to her.
Maureen is more than just a yoga teacher. She is a wife, daughter, step-mother, sister and friend. With six siblings, Maureen grew up in a big family, including many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family members. She continues to cultivate the community around her by often organizing gatherings for her yoga students to get to know one another. She also helps her fellow Orlando residents by volunteering for the Adult Literacy League.
“Yoga is a valuable tool for anyone seeking better health and healing. I have found it myself and I want to share it with others.” ~Maureen
