Doesn’t it feel good to be inspired to live each day as if it were going to be the best day ever? Of course we all want to feel more inspired, energized and enthusiastic about each day.

Imagine waking each morning, excited to get out of bed and in eager anticipation of what the day might hold. Imagine, a good feeling, strong, healthy body. Imagine a clarity of mind that you never thought possible. Imagine living each day with enthusiasm and purpose. Can you picture it? Well your journey starts here.

After many years of struggling with depression and unworthiness, I decided to pull myself up and out of that hole. I was 26 years old and knew that there had to be a better life worth living. That’s when I took my first yoga class and I loved it. It was life changing, and the amount of peace and ease I felt after each class was the feeling I wanted to enjoy 24/7. That journey started in 1999.

Fast-forward to 20 years later and my yoga journey has taken me to places I’ve never thought imaginable, physically, mentally and emotionally. In 2004 I took my first yoga teacher training with a small yoga company in Orlando, Florida. I started teaching basic poses to students at the gym and organized the sequences spontaneously according the levels of the students in the class. I had a knack for it, and soon my classes were growing beyond the capacity of the small gym room we had available. The windows would steam up and the energy was all encompassing. I loved it.

Because I enjoyed a more rigorous style of yoga and wanted a more authentic experience, I joined a local studio that taught a form of Ashtanga Yoga. The sequence and challenging postures had me hooked. But it also had me wanting more. If this was a traditional practice, how could I get a traditional experience? In India.

In 2006 I moved to Seoul, South Korea to teach English. When that year was up I headed to India, by way of China, Thailand and Sri Lanka. Upon landing in Bangalore in September 2007, I became enthralled at the energy of India. I could not wait to see what this trip would have in store.

Before that trip in 2007, I had pre-registered by snail mail, from Korea to practice at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Insitute in Mysore, India. I spent 6 weeks practicing Ashtanga Yoga there. Needless to say, I learned so much that trip, mostly about myself and my path in life. I am a teacher, it’s all I have ever have been, and this magical practice of yoga is something that I want to share with everyone I meet.

Since returning to Orlando in 2007 my life has been about growth and change. In 2008 I met the love of my life. In 2009 I started my own business, Urban Ashtanga, teaching yoga around the city as well as in my own studio space. Since that first trip to Mysore, India, I have returned 5 more times to continue my yogic studies. My life has never been better.
